Meet PaTH: Nickie Cappella

Get to know the University of Pittsburgh’s informatics lead, Nickie Cappella.

Question: What is your role in PaTH and what does it entail?
Nickie Cappella:
I am the PaTH IT Network Project Lead and the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC Project Manager responsible for PaTH Site IT activity deliverables and UPitt site IT deliverables and coordination.

Q: Did you always want to work in IT? If not, what did you originally want to do?
NC:
I started my career in software programming and consulting and spent 10 years working with manufacturing, finance, and purchasing software. A few years after moving to Pittsburgh, I decided to make a career change and pursued clinical healthcare data management and analytics. Four and a half years ago, I moved to the research side of healthcare data research as that has been my passion since starting in the healthcare environment.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?
NC:
I like to run, workout with weights, spend time outside hiking, walking and I’ll be sending my youngest off to college this coming fall so I’ll have even more time for hobbies!

Q: What is your favorite TV show?
NC:
That’s a tough question – but preferably something I can watch on Netflix/iPad so I can watch while on a treadmill! Examples: Breaking Bad, All American, True Detective. Many more…
